Our OAP spaniel, Barney, is 13, tired and a little cranky. He’s mellowed in his old age but he’ll never be the kind of pet the kids can play with and fuss over.

And I wouldn’t subject him to a bouncy puppy in his old age.

So we got a cat! 🥰 I want the kids to learn how to play with animals and care for them and love them up close, as well as from a respectful distance.

And Bentley has, so far, played his role faultlessly.

Bounding up and down the hallway after feathers on sticks, collapsing on Mollie’s bed for cuddles and then supervising her eating breakfast, whilst discussing whether to watch Frozen or Encanto.

I’ve never met a braver, more self assured cat! He’s amazing. And he’s only been here 24 hours!

Yes, I know they’re mental. I know they’re noisy. I know they’re high maintenance. That’s ok, so are we. 🤪
