How Do You Do 'Santa' In Your House?

How Do You Do 'Santa' In Your House?

December 04, 20231 min read

When we were kids, Father Christmas brought all of our Christmas presents. And there wasn’t really any question over whether that was right or wrong. It was just what everyone seemed to do.

Perhaps social media has exposed the cracks in this plan. I don’t know.

But I’m definitely very mindful about what I tell my children, for a few reasons…

🎁 I don’t want them to think they can just ask for anything and everything and that money/value is no object
🎁 I want my kids to know that hard work and effort has gone into making Christmas special for them. It’s not all down to the big guy that comes down the chimney and steals all the glory! 😂
🎁 Not all families can afford the same amount of presents. I hate the thought that one child might go into school and reel off a list of glorious presents that Santa brought them, whilst another is left wondering why they only recieved one small gift from him.

So now we tell our children that two of their presents (usually the ones they put into the Christmas list) are from Santa. Along with their stockings.

And the rest are from Mum and Dad.

We also like to make sure they choose something to give to me, Sam and one another, ‘from’ them! Even it’s just socks or chocolates.

So that they find enjoyment in giving, as well as receiving, gifts.

I’d love to hear how others navigate these tricky waters. How do you do Santa?
